Introduction
Here is a project created for Yousician, an amazing Finnish company that specialises in making apps that helps you develop your skills as a musician or become one. I was privileged to have a conversation with their team of inspiring data scientists and I got the chance to share this project with them. I highly recommend that you use their apps, they are clearly loved by users so there is a big chance that you will.
Methods and tools
I started this project by scraping reviews data from Google Play store, the data involved 3 different apps created by Yousician. The names of these app are GuitarTuna, Piano and Yousician. I aimed through this project to provide insightful dashboard that show cases the performance of each app and the reviews associated with it. The tools used for this projects are Python for data scraping, cleaning and analysing and Google Data Studio for data visualisations. Here is the link to the interactive dashboard, so you can yourself take a closer look at the results and interact with the charts https://datastudio.google.com/reporting/a7584572-f35f-4816-b515-721631345337 .
Results
Looking at the dashboard visualisations it is clear that GuitarTuna is doing remarkably well followed by Yousician and Piano app. It is also good to note that GuitarTuna was in the market since 2012 and has been constantly performing well which is impressive. The Yousician app come at second place in term of performance and number of users, interestingly the number of review spiked and went higher than GuitarTuna in April 2020, which happen to be the same time as the Covid19 first outbreak. It seems like people had more time at home to look into the app and write reviews about its performance, which was very interesting to see. It is a good time for Yoiusician to check the reviews of April 2020 as it might hold a lot of insights given that the app score from reviewers declined after Feb 2018. Piano is doing fairly well and come at 3rd place but it is clear that the app is still new and going through a lot of developments and updates which hopefully will push its rank higher.
What comes next?
This project is not fully completed yet and more analysis will be conducted as I aim to show more insights about the reviews it self. I will be adding more charts after running sentiment analysis and gain insights about the texts in the reviews. These information will help the team understand their customers and deliver the services they wish to see. For now the dashboard shows mostly numbers and not much about the reviews them self. Even though the information shown is powerful to share or learn from, the project can still benefits from future prediction and sentiment analysis which I am planning to do. Thank you for reading the post and I hope you enjoyed it, lets connect on LinkedIn as I like to widen my network of inspiring professionals https://www.linkedin.com/in/k-alw/
